IMC: A billion dollars iron reduction project in Bécancour

Société Internationale Métallique (SIM) announced, on April 19, 2017, that the results of its pre-feasibility were positive and that it intended to move along with its plan to build a billion-dollar iron reduction plant in Bécancour.

SIM would transform iron ore pellets from northern Quebec to produce two million tons a year of high-quality hot briquetted iron. The raw material would be brought to Bécancour by ship from Sept-Îles.

The project consists of more than a billion dollars investment and would create up to 1000 jobs during the two years it would take to build the plant. Once commissioned in 2020, it would directly hire 174 qualified employees and would create around 400 indirect jobs in the Bécancour area.
