Air quality

From April 1995 to March 2000, the Société du Parc industriel et portuaire de Bécancour and six other partners have implemented a program to monitor the air quality in Bécancour.

Over the course of the study, sampling stations have measured the following contaminants:

  • Sulfur dioxide (SO 2
  • Nitrogen oxide (NOx)
  • Carbon monoxide (CO)
  • Ozone (O3)
  • Volatile organic contaminants (VOC)
  • Fluorides
  • PAH

Results of measured concentrations of sulfur dioxide.

Maximum hourly concentration of SO2

Station Value % of standard
04504 (Bécancour sector) 50 ppb 10

The report on the study concluded that the activities of the Industrial Park in Bécancour have little influence on air quality, and that air at the site is of rural in quality.

This may be due to the use of high-performance production and purification technologies as well as the presence of a buffer zone between manufacturing plants and inhabited areas.
